Old Songs for the New Depression
Go Jazz, 1981
I love songs from the thirties and forties and play them on gigs, but in order to record them, I need a musical "reason"; for me, that reason is the groove: I strive to create a new musical premise and integrate the message into the modern story. In 1981, everybody was talking about the "new depression" so I ran with that. As a last thought, I threw in the "Piano Player's" song, which became kind of a jazz "hit".
